The History of Asian Youth Culture
An exhibition by True Form Projects CIC and funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund. Coming Soon to Birmingham in 2018.
For our second exhibition in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery we designed created a new space in the community gallery with Plane Structure. This was the culmination of over a year’s work collecting numerous archive and many more oral histories which were displayed over 4 large corridor spaces.
The first section was from the 1950s–60s, which looked at the initial migration and people settling to life in the UK. The second was the 1970s-90s which showed more a coming of age in the UK with the beginning of businesses, visibility in popular culture and public life. Finally, the 2000s–present section showed the current climate of what being Asian is and examples of peoples lives in the UK.
The exhibition also included the cinema space and also additional archive from Oriental Star Agencies.
